MB Wooden Railways
A different approach to wooden railways

Welcome to MB Wooden Railways, which is part of a larger site concerned with Miniature Buildings .  It discusses aspects of Brio (and compatible) railways and my own, not entirely usual, approach to them.  For my other articles on the subject please go to Railways Articles

A snapshot of Brio's own site

My own interest is modelling (and buildings of course) and my venture into the world of wooden railways is because it offers a reason and opportunity to produce something that my seven grandchildren can play with.  I nurture a hope that one or more of them will inherit my enthusiasm for making things.  Laying out Brio, or compatible, track is something I (and most other adults) do for them rather than my own interest.

Once you enter into the world of Brio enhusiasists (or the allied group of Thomas and Friends enthusiasts) it soon becomes clear that the collecting and cataloging of Brio components is an adult enthusiasm all of its own.  It is not mine and this article is thus a very short one with little in it other than a few links to the works of others.

The one exception to this is the identification of track.  For which I refer you to my article Brio track information from the Brio Wooden Railway Guide site

Brio's own site (as shown in the heading) of course only lists the stuff it is currenly trying to sell.

One site that looks to be comprehensive in its listing and illustration of Brio products is that produced by Jeroen Bensch

Another, apparently comprehensive, online resource is a series of spreadsheets produced by Fred Cochran and available through Google

Wooden Railway Info includes a listing of old Brio catalogues and an archive of BRIO's Engineers Club Newsletters.   John's very detailed product database is still on the site but a bit hidden away; the link from the menu bar no longer takes you there.  There are multiple pages to it.

As always, please e-mail Miniature Buildings if you have something to add. Comments, criticisms, extra thoughts, pictures, or even complete articles for inclusion in the Miniature Buildings site are all welcome. Or if you would like to be added to my mailing list to hear when a new article is published.
